Málaga Fair 2026: The Ultimate Guide

malaga-1

Málaga is a great place to visit at any time of year, but in August it comes alive. The Málaga Fair is one of the biggest events in Andalusia, making it an unforgettable week for anyone visiting.

To make sure you don't miss a thing, here at DoYouSpain we’ve put together this detailed guide to help you make the most of the fair. From start to finish, here is all the essential information you need:

When is the Málaga Fair 2026?

The Málaga Fair runs from the 15th to the 22nd of August 2026, lasting for about 8 days.

The fair kicks off on Friday night, the 14th of August, with live concerts and a fireworks display on the beach at midnight.

From the 15th onwards, the fair is split in two: the daytime fair in the city centre, and the evening fair at the fairgrounds.

What to do at the Málaga Fair

malaga-2

There are two completely different sides to the fair, and we recommend experiencing both.

The Day Fair (Historic Centre)

During the day, the party is in the centre of Málaga. Main streets like the famous Calle Larios or Plaza de las Flores fill up with people, tapas bars, and music.

Walking through the old town, you’ll find stages with live music in the squares and verdiales groups playing traditional folk music. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the streets of Malaga and get to know its culture.

The Night Fair (El Real)

Once the sun goes down, the party moves to the Cortijo de Torres fairgrounds. You can enjoy the fair at its official site from 8pm until 6am.

Unlike the Seville Fair, and being a huge plus for Malaga, the casetas (party tents) are public. You don’t need an invitation, you don't have to pay entry, and you don’t need to know anyone to get in. You can just walk into whichever one you fancy!

Málaga Fair Schedule: Key Highlights and Traditions

New events are added to the Málaga Fair programme every year, but there are some traditions that never change.

Fireworks, Concerts and the Romería Pilgrimage

The Málaga Fair kicks off at midnight on Friday the 14th of August. It all starts at 11:50pm with a drone and fireworks show at the port. The best places to watch it are La Malagueta beach, Muelle Uno or even from the promenade.

The Romería de la Virgen de la Victoria takes place on the first Saturday morning of the fair. Local people accompany the city’s patron saint from the centre to her sanctuary in a procession filled with horses, decorated carriages and flamenco dresses. If you want to see the most traditional side of the fair, you can't miss it

The live music lasts all week. Plaza de las Flores hosts flamenco concerts and live performances that will get anyone dancing.

What to drink at the fair: To stay cool in the heat, we recommend ordering a bottle of ice-cold Cartojal (the fair's signature wine) or a refreshing rebujito.

How to Get To the Málaga Fair

> What to see in Malaga during winter

Getting around the city during peak season takes a bit of planning. Here are the best tips to save you time and show you exactly where to park in Málaga during the fair:

Parking and Travel

Getting around the city centre during the fair is very easy if you plan ahead. Because streets are closed for the event, the easiest option is to leave your hire car in a designated parking area so you’re not driving around in circles or getting stuck in traffic.

Where to park throughout the day?: Underground car parks like the one at Plaza de la Marina or Muelle Uno are open and secure 24 hours a day. These are two great options, though we recommend getting there early as they tend to fill up fast. Depending on the car park, prices usually sit between 2€ and 2.40€ per hour.

Where to park at the fairgrounds (El Real): The most convenient option is to go straight to the parking zones set up right next to Cortijo de Torres, such as the Huerta de Correo, Teatinos, or Los Prados areas. These car parks usually charge a flat daily rate.

Practical Tips for the Málaga Fair

To help you make the most out of the fair, read through our quick tips to make sure you're fully prepared:

  • Comfortable footwear: You’ll be doing a lot of walking. Wear comfy shoes and definitely avoid using a brand-new pair.
  • Stay hydrated: It gets very hot in August. We highly recommend some Cartojal, but make sure to also drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
  • Pick a meeting point: Agree on a specific spot inside the fairgrounds in case you get lost.
  • Rental car: Hire your car with DoYouSpain and use the designated car parks at the fairgrounds. If you prefer to start in the centre, park there first and take the EMT shuttle bus over to the fairgrounds.
  • Dress Code: If you want to dress up in traditional flamenco attire, go for it! If not, that’s absolutely fine too. People at the Malaga Fair tend to dress up, but the main priority is staying comfortable.
